“Safety and security don’t just happen, they are the result of collective consensus and public investment. We owe our children, the most vulnerable citizens in our society, a life free of violence and fear.” Nelson Mandela
Child abuse happens in secrecy across all races, and ethnic and cultural backgrounds regardless of education and social economic status. 90% of child abuse victims know their perpetrator – he/she is most often a trusted family member or friend. Children face terrible violence, neglect, and abuse every day – even in Central Oregon. To prevent it, stop it, and give children the chance to heal from it, the entire community needs to know the facts, be willing to talk about it, and DO something about it!
Graca Machel-Mandela said, “Therefore my challenge to each of you…is that you ask yourself what you can do to make a difference. And then take that action, no matter how large or how small. For our children have a right to peace.”
There is no charge for the lunch; however, this is KIDS Center’s annual fundraising event and guests will be asked to join us in the prevention, education and treatment of child abuse by making a donation in any amount that is meaningful to them.
