Our volunteers are so special to us and we are always amazed at the countless hours they graciously donate. Each year more than 100 volunteers donate over 3,700 hours! Volunteers allow KIDS Center to provide valuable services to an ever growing number of children and families affected by child abuse in Central Oregon.
There are many different volunteer opportunities at KIDS Center, from helping out at our front desk to supporting an event – and it can be ongoing or periodic. You need to be over 18, pass a background check and be able to keep information confidential, given the nature of our work. Check out the various opportunities below!
Events are a great way to help out at KIDS Center without having to fulfill a large or regular time requirement. You can help out as little, or as much as you like at our events. We can cater our needs to your talents and experience. Our biggest events are Healing Hearts Luncheon in April and Cork & Barrel in July. Each need support leading up to the events, as well as after.
Volunteering at KIDS Center is a great way to work with families and our community partners. If you’re wanting to engage with clients at KIDS Center, volunteering at our front desk is a way to achieve that. Front desk volunteers must be friendly and outgoing, comfortable answering multiple calls, making copies, and interacting with people.
Frequently, KIDS Center has “behind the scenes” projects which often include making copies, stuffing envelopes, various data entry, and making phone calls. We also utilize our “behind the scene” volunteers during the Blue Ribbon Campaign in April and for our annual appeal in the fall in December.
Steps to volunteering
Below are the simple steps to becoming a volunteer.
- Sign up for one of our tours;
- Submit your application form or complete one on your tour;
- Meet with KIDS Center’s Volunteer Coordinator;
- Complete a Darkness to Light training (free for you).
Once you have completed these steps, you must pass a background check and be fingerprinted. Some positions require additional training, which will be covered when you apply.
