A specialized interview that is digitally recorded while community partners listen and watch from a designated observation room. This minimizes the number of times children have to tell their story while aiding in the investigation process.
We provide a voluntary head-to-toe check to address both abuse – related and general health concerns. Our medical examiners can assure children their bodies are healthy and safe, often alleviating any concerns or worries they may be carrying. This is often the first step in a child’s healing journey.
Families impacted by abuse can also be victims. Our team helps during the crisis by connecting parents with community resources and providing ongoing support throughout their journey of healing.
On-site Therapists help children and family members heal through individual, group and family therapy. Our age-appropriate counseling includes art, play and talk therapies, as well as Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavior Therapy (TFCBT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and Parent Child Interactive Therapy (PCIT) which lead children toward healthy futures.
We work to prevent child abuse from happening in our community through education, trainings, media campaigns and events all designed to empower individuals to create a community where no child is abused.
The Blue Ribbon Campaign began in 1989 as one woman’s tribute to her grandson. She tied a blue ribbon on her car antenna to symbolize his bruises, after he died at the hands of his mother’s abusive partner. KIDS Center brought the campaign to Central Oregon in 1997 to raise awareness of the epidemic of child abuse in our community.
As one of five Oregon regional training centers, KIDS Center provides complex case consultation, forensic interview and medical trainings and technical assistance to community partners addressing child abuse in 7 Eastern & Central Oregon counties and Warm Springs.
